Science education is full of stories: stories about discoveries, scientific heroes, progress, and what science tells us about ourselves. This session explores how storytelling can help students look more closely at those stories—who is included, what has been left out, what assumptions are embedded, and what happens when we reframe them. We’ll consider what happens as students move from being consumers of science stories, to critics of those stories, to creators of stories of their own—and ultimately to seeing themselves as people with stories worth telling. The session will also consider what happens when those stories lead beyond disciplinary boundaries, and how science, history, culture, ethics, identity, and society might be understood not as separate stories, but as interconnected parts of a larger human story.
