Description
Join us every other week for CLSE Seminar Series for presentations on teaching and learning! Seminar Topic - A Case Study of Active Learning in Introductory Cellular Biology Presented by Lucia Chacon-Diaz Although it is well-known that Active Learning Classrooms (ALC) are effective for student learning, there is limited research that addresses components that contribute to the effectiveness of ALC. This research applied an explanatory case study method in order to describe students’ behaviors, interactions, and engagement in an ALC. Students’ behaviors and interactions were categorized according to active learning teaching strategies. Findings reveal students exhibited positive engagement with the course content through the exposure of multiple active learning opportunities; however, engagement with each specific active learning teaching strategy varied.
