Description
** This activity is 2 points total with a *required* reflection.

This Friday November 5th, join a conversation with Shana Kerr about "Using the Process of Science to Promote Metacognition and Development of Better Study Strategies".

Can the scientific method help students become better learners? In this session I’ll share an active learning case study, framed around Karpicke and Blunt’s 2011 Science paper on retrieval practice, that I use in an introductory biology course to both explain the process of science and also provoke students to recognize that they likely are not using the most effective study strategies. Participants will experience a portion of the case study as learners, explore possible metacognitive follow-up activities, and collaboratively identify ways to incorporate and implement similar activities in their own courses.

Sit down with other engaged colleagues on Zoom. Based on research by the Summer Institutes, supports are three times more important than barriers in implementing Scientific Teaching in classrooms. Join us for support with the National Institute on Scientific Teaching, formerly the Summer Institutes (Bathgate et al., 2019a, 2019b).

RSVP here with the CLSE and by using this link above. Following the workshop, email Erica Szeyller.1 to confirm your attendance for the full event time. If you were not able to attend the full event, email Erica Szeyller.1 to discuss the possibility of 5001 course points.
