FALCoN (with Sayali Kukday). Building Community and Inclusive Teaching.
Description
Our STEM courses are reflections of the contemporary world. Students’ sense of belonging, engagement, and motivation are increased in courses where they feel included and visible. Inclusive teaching facilitates positive learning experiences for all students, improving outcomes especially for marginalized learners. Creating inclusive classrooms is a journey that begins with reflecting on the three elements of inclusive teaching (Dewsbury and Brame, 2019). During this session you’ll learn some practical strategies to build community and teach inclusively, especially in large-enrollment STEM courses. You’ll have a chance to reflect on these strategies with fellow FALCoNers and tap into our hive mind.
