Description
The College of Arts and Sciences Office of Distance Education will host a teaching forum to discuss managing large online courses without sacrificing rigor and student accountability. A panel of faculty, associated faculty, and a course coordinator from the Center for Life Sciences will share their perspectives and experiences in successfully managing large online courses. The panel will describe active learning methods and tools for ongoing student assessment, reducing the grading load, facilitating instructor-student communication, and asserting instructor presence.

  • Consider course design principles that can address many of these challenges
  • Develop strategies for promoting peer interaction and a community of learners in large enrolling courses
  • Evaluate active learning tools and methods for formative and summative assessments that reduce the burden of grading
Panelists:

Adam Andrews (Center for Life Sciences Education)
Kris Paulsen (History of Art)
Rebecca Ricciardo (Chemistry)
