Description
This Friday, February 23rd, join a conversation with Sami Raut about "Service Learning: A community engagement tool to enhance scientific literacy."

Scientific literacy plays an important role in educating Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) undergraduate students. Recently, the role of scientific literacy is recognized to be imperative in educating non-STEM majors as they rely on completing one or two science classes as a part of their curriculum. Knowledge gained from these courses enables them to form a framework for their day-to-day decisions in their lives as they constitute tomorrow’s voters, consumers and policy makers. This talk explores how a community engagement tool was utilized to address socio-scientific topics of interest to enhance scientific literacy for non-STEM majors.
