Description
The Scientist Spotlights Initiative aims to empower science instructors with inclusive science curricula as a means for students of all backgrounds to envision themselves in science. With the rationale to challenge long-standing scientist stereotypes, Scientist Spotlights engage students in writing reflections as part of assignments that link students to resources about biographical stories of counter-stereotypical scientists and their research. Importantly, Scientist Spotlights are an alternative method of delivering course content. Join this session to learn more about Scientists Spotlights, explore over 900 Scientist Spotlights – increasingly authored by students – on the open-access online database (www.scientistspotlights.org), discover ways to integrate Scientist Spotlights in your educational context, and consider the influence of Instructor Talk when framing Scientist Spotlights.
