Description
Instructors interested in methods for challenging student roles in the classroom and increasing the active learning that happens in their course are invited to join a session to explore the jigsaw approach. Staff will break down the strategy to simple steps that make it easy to implement the strategy effectively. A jigsaw class offers every student an opportunity to play an essential part in their learning experience and support their colleagues’ learning at the same time.

This session is open to all who teach, but might be particularly useful to instructors participating in the institute's Instructional Redesign program. The Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning has developed several "IR Recipes" desgined to simplify the process of putting into practice evidence-based instructional strategy. In this session, Institute consultants will share a Jigsaw Strategy recipe with participants who will be able to immediately use the technique.

Participants are only asked to arrive motivated to improve practice, and they’ll leave with a plan for effective, evidence-based change using Jigsaw!

After this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Describe the evidence-based strategy of jigsaw.
  • Plan implementation of jigsaw in their own context.
  • Anticipate and overcome barriers to effective use of the jigsaw strategy.
