Description
Active learning is a concept that has been researched extensively across multiple disciplines and in a variety of teaching and learning contexts. Benefits of active learning to students, both in terms of performance and experience, are supported by a large body of evidence.
In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the concept of active learning and will be provided opportunities to explore and learn about a variety of basic, evidence-based strategies that can be incorporated across disciplines, modalities, and teaching contexts.
Participants are encouraged to register for all six workshops or choose to register solely for the workshops that align with their needs. Workshop dates are as follows:
- September 6th: An Introduction to Evidence-Based Active Learning
- September 28th: Deep Dive into Active Learning Implementation Practice
- October 11th: Evidence-Based Active Learning: Peer Instruction
- October 26th: Evidence-Based Active Learning: Minute Paper
- November 8th: Evidence-Based Active Learning: Jigsaw
- November 30th: Evidence-Based Active Learning: Gallery Walk
After this workshop participants will be able to:
- define the concept of active learning as it is described in teaching and learning literature
- describe multiple, literature supported strategies that promote active learning
- consider adoption of active learning approaches in diverse teaching and learning environments (e.g., classroom, lab, field, studio, clinical settings)
