Description
Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) is a team-based model for undergraduate research that has demonstrated scalability, equity, and cost-effectiveness. Research on student outcomes has also shown gains in professional skills, measurable leadership growth, and higher job placement prior to graduation. The model has been implemented at roughly 50 colleges and universities in the US and abroad, with more departments and institutions adopting it each year. At Georgia Tech, 1/3 of bachelor’s degree recipients participated at least one semester, and enrollments continue to increase. This session will provide an overview of the VIP model, summarize findings on student outcomes, and share resources on program establishment. Because institutional contexts differ, participants will be asked to share/talk about undergraduate research at their institutions, so the discussion can be tailored to their situations.
