In this session, participants will examine the defining feature of a high-impact practice and how these are realized within different types of engaged learning experiences, such as service learning, undergraduate research, internships, learning communities, ePortfolios, and Capstone experiences. The participants will also consider the use of reflection as a core aspect of integrative learning in these experiences, and how these reflective pieces can be used for the assessment of student learning.

About the series: How can you provide students with access to a high quality, experiential learning opportunity within a course? Learn with us in "Engaging Students through High-Impact Practices," a four-part drop-in event series taking place in October and November 2020. Empirical research has demonstrated that engaged learning, including high-impact practices, yield numerous benefits for student learning and success. This CIRTLCast series will showcase several ways in which future faculty in all disciplines, levels and roles can embed and assess high-impact educational practices into curricular experiences. Participants will explore the features and benefits of a high-impact practice curricular experience, including global learning and engagement, undergraduate research, and ePortfolios. Participants will also examine the features of an instructionally aligned high-impact curricular experience, including learning objectives, activities, and the process and steps for assessing student learning within each experience. Building high-impact engaged learning experiences into the curriculum, within courses students take as part of their major, minor, or general education program, is a viable and necessary strategy to ensure all students have equitable access to these forms of experiential and applied learning.
RSVP for the workshop with the CLSE here as well as at the event webpage. Following the workshop, email Erica Szeyller.1 to confirm your attendance for the full event time. If you were not able to attend the full event, email Erica Szeyller.1 to discuss the possibility of 5001 course points.
