Description
Information literacy frameworks—from threshold concepts to critical approaches—were all developed before ChatGPT launched the Generative AI age in November 2022. We must come to terms with how transformative recent AI technologies have fundamentally altered the information landscape of higher education. Emerging AI technologies can output high-quality written materials, take vast quantities of information as context, and perform complex research tasks at a scale and scope impossible even a few years ago.
This workshop explores how AI must force a paradigm shift for information literacy theory and practice. Participants will examine three fundamental shifts AI creates: speed + scale, opaque authority, and autonomous agents. Rather than prescribing solutions, this session aims to facilitate deep questioning about how IL theory and practices should change to accommodate increasingly powerful technology.
