Description In this 2-part workshop, you will create a robust draft of your IDP and an action plan to facilitate conversations with your advisor or supervisor about career goals, current and desired skills, and professional development opportunities. We will discuss how to define achievable objectives, identify resources, and develop strategies for implementing and sustaining your plans. You’ll start by considering your current skills and career aspirations. Then, along with your peers, you will consider key features of effective plans. You will begin to create a personalized plan that takes into account career interests and addresses the resources needed for the development of knowledge and skills. In addition, you will begin writing objectives that are achievable and meaningful. IDPs are most effective when shared. Participants will develop a draft of their IDPs to share for feedback from the facilitators and other participants during the second session. Workshop participants will develop a plan for talking with their mentor and practice how to begin these conversations. Workshop Schedule This workshop has two online sessions, which participants are required to attend, at 4:00-5:30PM ET / 3-4:30PM CT / 2-3:30PM MT / 1:00PM-2:30PM PT on Tuesday, October 23 and Tuesday, October 30. Workload Participants will be asked to complete a self-assessment prior to the first session, create a draft of an IDP during the week between the two sessions, and share their draft IDPs with their peers during the second session. Registration & Enrollment This workshop is limited to 75 participants. Early registration for CIRTL members only is open from Monday, August 20 through 12PM CT on Friday, October 5. Regular registration runs from Monday, October 8 through 12PM CT on Friday, October 19.
