Description
Evaluating information sources is a key task for students. However, research shows that the traditional evaluation strategies that many students have previously been taught (such as the CRAAP test) may actually make it more challenging for them to identify credible sources. These strategies may encourage students to focus primarily on more superficial elements of a source, such as the domain (.com, .org). In this workshop, participants will learn about some of the key sources evaluation myths that may contribute to students’ challenges with identifying credible sources. Participants will also learn strategies for teaching students to more effectively identify trustworthy sources.

This workshop is part of the Information Literacy Virtual Workshop Series and is open to all instructors, librarians, instructional support staff, and graduate teaching associates at Ohio State. This workshop counts as one credit hour toward the Teaching Information Literacy endorsement from the Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning.
