Description
As higher education classrooms become more diverse and complex, the course syllabus has the potential to serve not just as a contract but as a powerful catalyst for inclusive, human-centered learning. In this session, we share findings from a mixed‑methods study of 31 instructors across multiple institutions, identifying how UDL-aligned syllabi foster cultures of safety, inclusive language, and humanizing pedagogy. We will explore practical strategies, from normalizing vulnerability and promoting learner agency to embracing warm demander practices, that make syllabi active tools for engagement, representation, and action/expression. Participants will engage in hands‑on activities to examine their own syllabi and leave with concrete, research‑informed approaches to redesigning these documents as equitable, learner-centered systems that support all students’ success.
