LEARNING GOALS Participants in this session will understand the need for and be able to: ** Build accessible content (using headings) in CarmenCanvas and Microsoft Word. ** Add alternate text for images. ** Add descriptive hyperlinks. ** Set up accessible tables. ** Add captions to video content. This 90-minute workshop will highlight common accessibility issues and solutions in order to help you make easy changes to your course that make a big impact for students. Instructional designers from ODEE will explain five accessibility challenges and walk you through some simple remediation efforts to address them. Tips will be provided for formatting content in Carmen and in Microsoft Word, as well as for making images and video accessible. What is accessibility? Accessibility, in the context we use it, refers to the practice of designing and utilizing technology and content in the classroom so that students with vision, auditory, motor and cognitive disabilities can successfully navigate, use and benefit from them. Why does accessibility matter to you? Access for students is a key component of our mission as a university. In addition, lawsuits in higher education are pointing toward the need for a high level of urgency in designing and teaching with accessibility in mind. Where can you find more information?
