Advancing Equity: Creating Inclusive Learning Environments for Neurodiverse Students
Neurodiverse students are enrolling in college in ever increasing numbers but have lower graduation rates than their non-neurodiverse peers. Functional learning differences can make traditional teaching methods challenging for the neurodiverse, and this fun and informative workshop will assist instructors in supporting neurodiverse students by exploring inclusive teaching strategies designed to remove learning challenges and increase student academic achievement and persistence.
During this workshop, participants will be able to:
• Define Neurodiversity.
• Identify the common types and forms of neurodiversity.
• List three inclusive teaching strategies that can be used to increase learning opportunities and equity for the neurodiverse student.
• Identify one way in which inclusive teaching strategies for the neurodiverse student can be applied in their current classroom or future classroom setting.
