Description
Join us every other week for CLSE Seminar Series for presentations of research in teaching and learning!
In the seminar, Deborah Lan will be discussing the overall benefits of argumentation with focuses on argumentation as a structure for formative and summative assessment, common struggles of students when asked to think in terms of creating arguments, and finally touching on argumentation discourse. This will include a brief activity in scientific argumentation to show how it can engage students in critical thinking and analysis of evidence.
On Carmen there is an article posted by Jon Osborne. Jon Osborne is a big name currently in scientific argumentation and this reading does a really great job of looking at the different aspects of creating arguments, the discourse involved, and the social construction of knowledge requirement aspect and then applying all of this within the context of science.
