Description
Research or inquiry-based assignments, in which students are required to locate, evaluate and synthesize multiple sources of information, are common across higher education. However, misunderstandings about the purpose and process of these assignments are common, creating frustrations for both students and instructors. In this workshop, part of University Libraries’ Information Literacy Virtual Workshop Series, we will explore some common reasons for these misunderstandings, including academic jargon and hidden steps in the research process. We will provide practical strategies and activities that instructors can use to clarify expectations for research or inquiry-based assignments and support students’ ability to complete these assignments successfully.
