Description
Learning communities are valuable because they bring people together for shared learning, discovery, and the generation of knowledge. Within a learning community, all participants take responsibility for achieving the learning goals. Importantly, learning communities are the process by which individuals come together to achieve learning goals. These learning goals can be specific to individual courses and activities, or can be those that guide an entire teaching and learning enterprise. This workshop is designed for new or future leaders of local learning communities to inform their design. Participants will identify the characteristics of successful learning communities, as well as analyze an example learning community to develop strategies that they will apply to their own learning community.
Workshop Schedule
This workshop has two online sessions, which participants are required to attend, at 4-5:30PM ET / 3-4:30PM CT / 2-3:30PM MT / 1-2:30PM PT on Wednesday, October 17 and October 31.
Workload
Participants will be expected to watch some brief videos and read several articles outside of workshop sessions. In between the first and second sessions, participants are expected to observe a learning community and fill out an observation rubric, which they will use to inform their work in the second and final session. Please contact Erica Szeyller.1 for the schedule of CLSE's learning community CURE TALC. Workshop facilitators can assist participants who aren't able to observe to a local learning community.
