Description
Biologists have many ways of representing concepts in molecular biology, but are students interpreting these representations as intended? We investigated how students use visual literacy skills to interpret and make sense of visual representations in biology, particularly representations of DNA. We found that students can struggle with interpreting abstract images across different scales, and highlight the DNA Landscape as a teaching tool for biology instructors aiming to incorporate visual literacy skills into their courses.
