Description
Professional identity impacts career choices, ongoing education, and well being. Identity formation involves a complex network of social interaction, role models and mentors, experiential learning and knowledge acquisition. Professional identity formation encourages learners to “think, act, and feel like a professional.”
   
   Experts on this topic propose that a principal goal of professional education is the development of a professional identity and that educational strategies can support this objective. During this interactive workshop, participants will learn about the theories guiding identify work and hear from a panel of experienced colleagues about strategies to encouraging professional identity formation. 

Following this session, participants will be able to

  • Define professional identity formation and its value as a curricular outcome.
  • Discuss the process of identity formation and factors that influence professional identity.
  • Develop strategies for encouraging the PIF of learners.
