Description
What is CRUST? A new student organization with two major focuses: 1) Professional development . CRUST will be great for people who are interested in pursuing a teaching position in the future or have a passion for education. To our knowledge, CRUST is the first and only student org at OSU that focuses on professional development for STEM educators. CRUST (Community for Research-based Undergraduate STEM Teaching) will be having our next meeting on Monday, 2/17 at 5pm in Jennings room 164. Dr. Dave Sovic from the Center for Life Sciences Education will be speaking about Metacognition (student's awareness of their learning). Dr. Sovic will be discussing some of the theories of learning related to metacognitive research as well as some of the current research being done here at OSU. Pizza will be provided! We will be exploring the theoretical framework of metacognition as it relates to self-regulated learning, while also discussing practical approaches to facilitating student metacognitive growth. In addition, we will also discuss two ongoing CLSE research studies regarding effects of student metacognitive training. The first involves an investigation into the potential for course learning outcomes to serve as tools for metacognitive practice. The second study seeks to determine if student metacognitive training is “enough” to support student success, or if dedicated training in additional elements of self-regulated learning is warranted. Please RSVP if you plan to attend.
