Description
‘The Hybrid Classroom of the Future’
This past spring saw many instructors shifting to hybrid classrooms, combining in-person and online teaching in varying amounts with the aid of virtual teaching resources. While the widespread shift to the hybrid model in the spring semester may have been initiated by necessity, ample evidence of its positive effects suggests that it is here to stay. Peter Ronai, Clinical Professor at Sacred Heart University, and Nir Ohad, Director of the Manna Center Program at Tel Aviv University, have designed hybrid courses for clinical science and biology respectively, both with highly successful outcomes.
In this session, Professors Peter and Nir will both speak about what they learned during the process of designing these courses, discussing the benefits of hybrid instruction, as well as likely challenges and actionable ways to address these. They will also cover different forms of hybrid instruction, including the asynchronous flipped model, and focus on a variety of questions such as:
- how do you design assessments suited to hybrid courses?
- how can you bridge the gap between the hybrid classroom and the real world?
- how can faculty ensure that online and in-person elements complement each other?
- what kinds of virtual resources can help this process?
This session will give attendees an opportunity to learn about different ways in which the hybrid classroom experience can be crafted to keep students engaged and help instructors meet their teaching objectives.
