Description
Many instructors come to UCAT with questions about how to engage students of varying backgrounds, including those with divergent levels of preparedness for the culture and expectations of higher education. In order to foster conversation around this topic, UCAT staff will facilitate a book group on Teaching Unprepared Students: Strategies for Promoting Success and Retention in Higher Education by Kathleen Gabriel, assistant professor of education at California State University-Chico. While the book focuses on teaching strategies to engage students who are inadequately prepared, those strategies can increase the engagement of all students in class, without compromising the need for high standards.
** Meetings: February 11, 18, 25, and March 4
