Description
Our role as faculty and instructors includes creating diverse, inclusive environments where all students learn and engage fully. But how do we ensure this for our LGBTQ students? What do we do when controversial topics arise? How do we balance a supportive environment with a free exchange of ideas? Please join the University Center for the Advancement of Teaching in collaboration with LGBTQ Initiatives at the Student Life Multicultural Center for a workshop on supporting LGBTQ students in classroom environments. In this interactive workshop, we will discuss practical approaches to building inclusion in the classroom, including how to identify anti-LGBTQ bias in classroom discussions; managing controversial subjects; strategies for incorporating LGBTQ themes into curricula; and more. Please note that we will not review Safe Zone training topics such as basic terminology in this workshop. We hope that you will join us!
