Description
Navigating the academic job market requires knowledge, time, organizational skills, and perseverance. In this interactive workshop, we seek to answer some of the most common questions asked by graduate students and postdoctoral scholars pursuing positions in higher education. Some of these questions include: (1) What type of school is right for my goals?; (2) When should I begin the job search process?; (3) What different types of academic positions are available?; and, (4) How much salary should I expect? Participants in the workshop will learn about a wide range of tools and resources available to assist them in answering many questions about finding and securing an academic job. Participants completing the workshop will complete a job profile, personal timeline, and statement of personal goals. Note: this workshop will not cover crafting the documents needed for an academic job (CV/Resume, Teaching Statement, etc.)
Workshop Schedule
This workshop has two online sessions, which participants are required to attend, at 1-2:30PM ET / 12-1:30PM CT / 11AM-12:30PM MT / 10-11:30AM PT on Wednesday, September 12 and September 19.
Workload
Participants should expect to spend time outside of sessions on some brief assigned readings and on their own job searches.
Registration & Enrollment
This workshop is limited to 50 participants.
Registration is open from Monday, August 20 through 12PM CT on Friday, September 7. STEM/SBE grad students and postdocs from CIRTL institutions receive priority; we refer to the institution, role, and discipline in your website profile when assessing priority.
