Description
Students enter Ohio State with varying familiarity with institutional and disciplinary norms, as well as differing senses of belonging. These factors and others can contribute substantially to their success on course assignments. In this interactive session, participants will learn how they can support students’ learning by communicating transparently about assignments. In addition to an overview of the Transparency in Learning and Teaching framework and its supporting research.
After this workshop participants will be able to:
- discuss how transparency benefits first year students, especially minority and first-generation students
- plan a transparent assignment/activity using the TiLT framework
- reflect on specific ways we can communicate more transparently with our students about assignments
