Description
Thursday, June 1 (9PT/ 10MT/ 11CT/ 12ET):
"What am I actually measuring? The role of validity evidence in STEM education research," with Regis Komperda
Zoom link: https://asu.zoom.us/j/85220663854
STEM education researchers often rely on instruments (surveys, assessments, etc.) to measure variables such as attitudes, understanding, or behaviors. These measurements are frequently used to make decisions about the impact or effectiveness of an intervention or practice. However, not all measurements are created equal. Validity evidence is necessary to demonstrate that relevant variables are being measured accurately in order to support conclusions drawn from the data. This talk will discuss standards for providing validity evidence and considerations for instrument developers and users. Relevant examples from the STEM education literature will be provided and a resource in chemistry education, the ChemistryInstrument Review and Assessment Library (CHIRAL; chiral.chemedx.org) will be highlighted.

If you can't make it to the seminars live, all talks will be recorded and uploaded to the SABER website within a few days. Recordings of the first two talks ("Form and Function: Drawing to Learn Biology," with Jennifer Landin, and "QuantCrit as a Methodological Framework to Support Equity and Justice in Chemistry Education Research," with Paulette Vincent-Ruz) are already posted on the website, so if you missed those sessions, you can watch them here: https://saberbio.wildapricot.org/page-18247
